Learn, do, earn with Dynamics 365 - Session 4
Ana DemenyProducts, Product Families, Units, Price Lists and how they work in Dynamics made Session 4 of our amazing learning series. Even though it's quite technical, I hope you'll find this part of Dynamics interesting. I also hope you like flowers :D.
In previous lessons, we used the example of a florist looking to manage their business through Dynamics365, so I thought we'll continue with that when looking at the Product Catalogue. You can all blame it on my friend who recently wanted a perfume called Flower Bomb and made me think about flowers.
The Product Catalogue in Dynamics is not as widely used as other areas of Dynamics 365, but knowing about it is very valuable, as it unleashes a welth of functionality, such as forecast and revenue calculations, or automations with regards to Opportunities, Quotes, Orders and Invoices.
It all begins with the Opportunity, where, if you scroll down, you'll find Product Line Items. Here we can associate a PriceList and Products to our Opportunity. If you want to use the calculations, you need to have your Opportunity as System Calculated:
To be able to add Product Line Items, you first need to set un the Product Catalogue. I've created a separate article, where I talk about what the Product Catalog is, how it works and how to set it up.
At the end of this article, I've detailed the setup of Unit Groups, because this has changed in V9 and all the training materials reference older versions od Dynamics, so yesterday, when I tried to create Units, I couldn't find the menu and I chocked a little bit :D.
I also recorded a video that was supposed to be short, but ended up being 30 minutes long. It does go through a real life example, so I hope it will help you:
Our Roadmap as it stands, looks like this:
We still have a long way to go, but we are progressing nicely.
Next week we'll have a guest. We've worked hard, we deserve some fun :).
See you soon!
